March 31, 2014 — Fans closed out openly gay independent artist Steve Grand’s Kickstarter campaign by making his debut album the No. 3 most-funded music project in Kickstarter’s history – and the No. 1 most-funded music Kickstarter among musicians who have never been affiliated with a major record label.
These rankings are based on pledges of $326,593 from 4,905 backers as the campaign wrapped up Sunday, March 30. Final pledges were more than four times the original goal of $81,000.
“What can I possibly say that sums up my feelings at this moment?” Steve said in a message to fans. “I’m overwhelmed. Grateful beyond measure. Truly moved by what you’ve done.”
Steve thanked fans for their record-breaking support.
“But most of all,” he said, “you made it 100 percent clear to the world that united, we will make our voices heard. We will spread our message of love and inclusion to an even wider audience. And yes, as you said, we will change the world one song at a time.”
Finally, Steve added: “You’ve given me all the motivation I need to work my heart out for you. Nothing is more important to me than honoring the trust and love you’ve placed in me to tell honest stories, OUR stories, and to make a great album.”
Steve’s fans, known as GrandFam, set an astonishing pace from the start of the campaign to its conclusion:
· Just 17 hours after the Feb. 26 launch, fans busted through Steve’s $81,000 goal.
· On March 6, the project became one of the top 10 most-funded music projects in Kickstarter’s history.
· On March 20, the project hit the top 5 most-funded music projects in Kickstarter’s history.
· The project finished as the No. 3 most-funded music project in Kickstarter’s history – and the No. 1 most-funded music Kickstarter among musicians who have never been affiliated with a major record label.
Steve’s debut album, “All-American Boy, is targeted for summer.

Quick Bio: Not long ago, Steve Grand was a little-known Chicago singer-songwriter. But that changed July 2, 2013, when his self-funded music video, “All-American Boy,” posted to YouTube. The song — about unrequited love between two men — went viral, accumulating more than 2.8 million views, landing Steve in the national spotlight and catapulting the song to Buzzfeed’s list of the “24 Most Brilliant Music Videos from 2013.” Steve has been hailed as a “viral sensation” and one of America’s “first openly gay country stars.” Steve released a second single, “Stay,” then a third, “Back to California,” which offers a sneak peek at his first full-length album targeted for summer.
